North Bay Resiliency : Fire Benefit Show & Silent Auction

Wednesday, December 20, 2017 - 6:00pm - 10:00pm

Join us on Wednesday December 20th as we gather as a community to help support those who have been affected by the fires. Performances by Mikey Pauker, Thrive East Bay Choir, and Olivia Davis Music. Keynote by Penny Livingston-Stark and James Stark of Regenerative Design Institute. Workshops by Justin Fuller (CryptoCurrent - An Intro to Bitcoin & Other Cryptocurrencies), Brennan Blazer Bird of SolutionCraft (An Ecological Approach to Disaster Preparedness), and Karrie Myers Taylor (Self-Care After Disaster). Massages by Kayameyzing Massage, a DIY tea blending station, and delicious food & drinks by Key Tea.


The suggested donation for the event is on sliding scale of $15-$45 (no one turned away for lack of funds).

Have you been looking for a way for your daughter to learn about the different cycles of her body, learn the importance of consent, set goals and make new friends? Or has your daughter been wanting a deeper connection with friends, family or herself?

Our 6-week Sister Moon Series with Bethany Gurrola is for 9-12 year olds. Each session is 3.5 hours long and will present your daughter with creative and healthy ways of expressing her ever-changing emotions, goals, and dreams in a circle of support and friendship. The 6-week series is $395. $20 off when you register at least 3 weeks ahead.

We will explore the many ways that people navigate their emotions and discuss the differences between healthy and unhealthy ways to express them with guided conversation, art, crafts, music, snacks, and community. Your daughter will learn to be a peer and support others around her while still holding space for herself. The topics we will be covering throughout the series will include:
- self care tips and rituals
- healthy outlets and exercises for expressing emotions
- discussing the natural parts and functions of our bodies and correct anatomy names
- menstrual cycles & energy cycles we go through during each month
- issues that arise in friendships and family relationships
- the importance and power of consent, boundaries, and trust.

Art + Play: An exploratory, creative, hands on, fun, first art class. Sensory exploration in art creativity in your toddler. Dress for messy. Explore clay, paint, mosaic, sculpture, sewing, printmaking, collage, and mixed media. Child with assistant (Mom, Dad or a helper) a must for this class.

Family and friends welcome to create together!

Get your weekend started with a group activity. All Ages. Adults, have you wanted to share in some of the creative art classes we host, or just want to create with your children where someone else cleans up the mess? This class was designed with you in mind. Each week will be a different project that you and your kids can create together. Pricing is 1-2 persons, with the addition of 1-2 more for a small fee. Come and join us for some amazing bonding, creating, fun, and an art project that will forever be a memory. Don't feel creative mama's and papa's? Don't worry, we got this. Each project is teacher instructed. Beginners and experts welcome.

Areas of focus for this session:

using molds to create a large bowl or platter (two class times)
mosaic flower pot
make a dream catcher
These classes are for parent(s), grandparent(s) and children to work together. Building memories while creating a more in depth project than children are capable doing on their own. Most projects take two class times.

Mixed Media - ages 4 to 6

In this thought provoking class, students learn how to use all art mediums to create contemporary art pieces. This is a very fun and inventive class. Mixed Media Madness is a time for students to explore while discovering how paint, drawing, clay, fabric, and recycled materials can be used together. Great class for creative thinking skills, design thinking skills, individuality, and self-esteem.

Areas of focus for this session:

Gaudi inspired mosaic frame.
Fabric wrapped wire portrait
Weaving shapes wall hanging
Painting story stones and sewing a treasure pouch to put them in.
Zentangle mask making
Stitch a drawing
Please note: we may not get through all projects, but we will certainly try.

Art + History: History when mixed with art gets pretty exciting! From throwing paint at large canvas, building tall sculptures with clay and found pieces, graffiti art using non-toxic spray paint, and mural making, every class will be wildly wonderful. Upcoming and historical artists explored through drawing, painting, sculpting, and mixed media. This is a very rich class in historical artists (past and present), art materials, and how to create art.

Areas of focus for this session:

Keith Herring, figures in motion.
Renaissance Architecture, learn perspective while creating your own design.
Contemporary artist David Zinn alongside Lascaux Cave Art. What types of surface can you draw on?
Wassily Kandinsky, designing a circle themed bowl out of clay.
Taking a new look at recycled art with artist El Anatsui.
Advocacy through art in studying artist Courtney Mattison’s ceramic sculptures and creating our own sculpture of the coral reef.

Homeschool Art Class

Homeschooling? Come and meet with us every week to learn more about art techniques, art history, art materials and creative expression. We celebrate diversity and individualism through process oriented art making. Critical thinking skills, eye-hand coordination, design thinking, fine motor skills, creative problem solving skills, and self-esteem will be gained through this class. Students will have the chance to choose what they would like to learn more about in acrylic painting, oil painting, mosaics, sculpture, drawing, cartooning, animation, and mixed media. Come and have some fun with us!

Clay, Ceramics + Pottery: A very popular class for good reason, its FUN to create in clay. If you child has had a great time in one of our drop in sessions and have worked with clay or on the potters wheel, you will LOVE this class. We will take students from just learning about clay, to creating amazing art works from clay. With a rich curriculum, this class allows for challenging and exciting exploration. Mid fire earthenware is used in at S4A to create works that have strength and are food safe.

Clay + Play: A very popular class for good reason, its FUN to create in clay. Our young students will even get a chance to learn how to throw on a potters wheel. Learning traditional clay techniques such as slab construction, coiling methods, sculpture, and pinch pot. This is an exceptional class if your child is in need of strengthening fingers for finger dexterity and small motor skills. Great for children that need to strengthen finger/hand muscles to control a pencil for writing.

Creatures, mosaics, plates/cups/bowls, animals, masks, and imagination explored.
