Infant and Child CPR (for expectant parents, parents, grandparents, and caregivers of children up to onset of puberty)

Thursday, June 4 from 7 to 9 pm
Learn to recognize an infant or child in distress, rescue measures for choking, CPR techniques, and infant sleep safety. Includes hands-on practice with mannequins. One-year certification provided. Pre-crawling babies welcome. With Shanda Manion, CPR instructor certified by the American Heart Association in basic life support. $45. Register here.

Linedrive Baseball and Softball Comes to San Rafael

Linedrive Baseball and Softball San RafaelBaseball players of all ages will welcome Linedrive Baseball and Softball, Marin's newest and largest baseball training facility, to San Rafael. This 17,000 square feet facility offers hard ball and softball batting cages; professional pitching, hitting, fielding, and catching lessons; dodgeball tournaments; birthday parties; summer camps, and much more.

Linedrive's four fully automated batting cages allow you to hit real baseballs (and softballs, too). In fact, it's the only facility in the Bay Area that offers this! Cage tokens cost $3.50 ($2.50 for Linedrive members); a pack of 10 tokens costs $30.

Hitting, Biting, and Pushing: Managing Aggressive Behavior in Young Children (1–5 years)

Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 7–9 pm
Young children can quickly and easily become overwhelmed by strong feelings that lead to aggression. As a parent, you can find mortifying to watch your child behave aggressively and not know how to intervene. During this workshop, you will acquire strategies to prevent, manage, and respond to aggressive behaviors, including biting, hitting, and grabbing toys. $40. With Susan Byrd, LCSW. Register here.

You are expecting a new baby, or your precious bundle of joy has just arrived. Congratulations! You must be over the moon.

But beyond euphoria, you may be experiencing many other feelings—fatigue, fear, confusion, and a sense of being overwhelmed—all mixed in with the excitement of your firstborn (or second, third, or fourth child!).

Not to worry. All of these feelings are common and understandable. There are also many techniques and tips available to help you and your spouse or partner manage the new changes in your and your baby’s life.

At Parents Place in San Rafael, we offer many services and programs to help you adjust to the monumental change that has occurred in your life: your new son or daughter! Here are a number of our offerings that will smooth your way:

  • A New Mom Discussion Group. Join other new mothers to discuss the joys and challenges of becoming a mom, make new friends, and network. We will discuss both practical and emotional issues of parenting, including breast and/or bottle-feeding; changing relationships with friends, family, and partner; helping your baby sleep through the night; and taking care of yourself. Webinar: Raising Your Only Child (parents of children of any age)

Parents of only children often worry if their child can be happy and well-adjusted without siblings. During this webinar, we will discuss the many myths about only children and explore the research on how only children develop. We will learn strategies which help to avoid spoiling your child, and which help to foster independence and positive social relationships. We will also explore ways to create a balanced family triad in which each family member feels important and complete. With Karen Friedland-Brown, MA. Tuesday, March 31, noon–1 pm. $10. Stapleton Ballet's Sleeping Beauty Comes to The Playhouse in San Anselmo this Weekend

Stapleton Ballet Sleeping BeautyThis weekend, over 100 young dancers from Marin's Stapleton Ballet will present the story ballet Sleeping Beauty at the Playhouse in San Anselmo. Featuring lavish sets and costumes, this family-friendly production takes place on Saturday and Sunday at 1 and 5 pm.

The show is performed by Stapleton Youth Company dancers and guest performers, including BFA students from the Dominican University/Lines Ballet program. The show also includes excerpts from Balanchine’s Who Cares? Set to the music of George Gershwin. All seating is general. Run time for the entire show is an hour and a half, and there is a 15-minute intermission. Princess Aurora and the fairies will greet children after the performance, so bring your cameras!

Teaching Children the Value of Money with Wells Fargo and Speak to Me

Masque Unit Junior Theatre's Production of Charlotte's Web Comes to Marin Center This Weekend

charlotte's webE.B. White's classic story Charlotte's Web comes to life in Masque Unit Junior Theatre’s annual live theater production for young children at Marin Center this weekend. Masque Unit’s production of Joseph Robinette and Charles Strouse's musical adaptation of Charlotte's Web introduces children to the timeless story of Wilbur the pig, a little girl named Fern, and a spider called Charlotte, and offers an afternoon of delightful entertainment.

This classic story of friendship and community will warm your heart. Come along as Wilbur moves to a farm, finds a new unexpected family, and goes from being the runt of the little to "Some Pig".

Charlotte's Web takes place at the Showcase Theater at the Marin Civic Center in San Rafael on March 7 and 8, 2015 at 1 and 3 pm. Tickets are $8 per person, available through the Marin Civic Center box office at (415) 499-6800.
